Playtech commissioned Black Cube’s investigation, which Evolution has described as a “smear campaign” involving secretly recorded interviews with staff members.

The dossier accused Evolution of supplying games into banned and sanctioned markets, including territories under US sanctions such as Iran and Syria.

The supplier had so far stood behind Black Cube’s investigation, and previously described it as “undertaken lawfully” to understand and verify “concerns of significant regulatory and commercial importance”.

Playtech commissioned intelligence firm Black Cube to investigate Evolution’s activities in 2020, with the resulting dossier alleging Evolution supplied games into banned and sanctioned markets.

Evolution subsequently sued Black Cube and has sought to hold Playtech accountable in the related defamation case.

This week, Spectrum Gaming released its Evolution-commissioned report, and Playtech has highlighted a number of claims from Black Cube’s investigation that have been corroborated in the report.

Evolution then commissioned Spectrum Gaming Group to produce a report on its actions and the validity of the Black Cube report. Produced in 2022, the report has long been subject to confidentiality despite Evolution claiming the report exonerated the company.

Playtech on Wednesday published a statement highlighting what it claimed were compliance failures at Evolution, written into the Spectrum report.

Within the report, Spectrum alleged “concerns around the availability of Evolution’s games in certain prohibited markets, the regulatory implications of its practices, and the lack of proactive monitoring of its customers”.
